Andre Sofa

200808140741
While I am a firm believer in finding “affordable” furniture, there has to be some balance in price and quality. The Andre sofa from Room and Board seems to do a pretty good job of balancing the two. It’s classic mid-century modern styling gives it a look that will endure through the years, and the build quality should help it to go the distance. At $1,599 it’s not the most affordable modern sofa, but it’s definitely one of the better looking ones I have seen in a while.
Available from Room and Board – $1,599 to $1,699.

Creede is a frugal design junkie. He loves miminamist and mid-century influences and often finds himself with a hammer and drill in hand in order to achieve the style he wants without breaking the bank.

I have a several Room & Board pieces – a very Modern-inspired black leather sofa and ottoman, a Parsons dining table with a two inch thick cherry slab top, a table and chairs on my terrace – as well as some MidCenMod classics I bought from them (two Nelson benches, a Noguchi lamp).

I just wanted to say how happy I am both with the products and with Room & Board’s outstanding sales and service staffs. It’s definitely more expensive from an entry point perspective, but the quality of ALL of their products is absolutely outstanding. If you are in a position to view the purchase as a long term investment (and not as a short term “I need someplace to sit down and eat” kind of thing), I think you will find Room & Board to be an excellent choice. The only time I was disappointed in a piece – a leather-wrapped dining chair with a slightly crooked seam – they simply sent over a new one and took the one with which I was unhappy away, no questions asked.

(I’m not associated with R&B in any way; I’m just a very happy customer).

I love Room & board, probably more than I should. Fortunately I have a retail showroom within minutes of my apartment. We have a Townsend sofa that we’re pretty happy with, and their year-long 10% discount on Herman Miller has served us well.

That said, Crate & Barrel has another mid-century looking sofa that’s very similar to and, in my opinion, more comfortable than the Andre. It’s called the Petrie, and it comes it brown or white fabrics. I almost wish we’d purchased it instead.

(I too have nothing to do with R&B or C&B other than being a customer.)

I love that design, but it was a little more then I wanted to spend, so I got the EQ3 Byrd sofa for a little over $800. http://eq3.com/cat-eq3/process/locale/en_US/currency/en_US/30058-01.html
