Turner Castle Summerhouse

Here is a little friday eye candy for all of you who have ever thought about building a little shed behind your house. This north London shed was designed by Turner Castle in collaboration with Ullmayer Sylvester Architects. The home owners needed some additional space for their expanding family, but instead of adding on to their house, they decided to build a small building in the back yard. The shed is built on a steel frame, and is wood clad. It functions as a art studio, playroom, tool shed, and kitchen. I love the way it floats over the gravel.

Creede is a frugal design junkie. He loves miminamist and mid-century influences and often finds himself with a hammer and drill in hand in order to achieve the style he wants without breaking the bank.

    Great find this one. Wow. It looks like it has a lot of roots in the Blazona-style shed but taken to a whole other level. I just built a shed in the back, but this one has mine beat. The polycarb roofing is very trick, but I don’t know about that reflective wall.

    i’m dreaming of a new shed. i saw the modern cabana at dwell on design in san francisco last month. they start at about $10, 000 for 10×10′, youch (help me grammar police).

    Markus, give that one up, my friend. Nother is from an old colloquialism that has persisted particularly on the East Coast and Mid-West, from what I understand. It’s not wrong per se, but neither is using “other” wrong.

    mod*mom – I’m in the middle of building a 12×14 shed for myself (click my name to see). Materials alone have exceeded $2k, and the base/foundation was already in place from a previous owner’s shed. It’s not nearly so fancy as the Modern Cabana or Modern-Shed versions either. If you don’t have the will or capacity to build your own, the MC seems like a pretty reasonably good deal (not that I could afford it).
