vintage cosco booster

200909290738.jpg

Our son is well into the booster chair age, but we have yet to buy a booster seat. I have looked a little bit but figured that I would be next to impossible to find something that had a nice modern style to it. Then by chance I was looking around craigslist and found this vintage Cosco booster seat. Turns out that there are a ton of them out there, and they are usually available on ebay f0r $20-$30 plus shipping. They may have been made in the 70′s but the style is perfect for the mid-century modern look.

Anyone have one of these and want to comment on how functional they are?

Creede is a frugal design junkie. He loves miminamist and mid-century influences and often finds himself with a hammer and drill in hand in order to achieve the style he wants without breaking the bank.

Hello, I don´t know if it´s functional, but I found a page called Deconet, they have vintage design for sale!
    Have a nice day

We used one (exactly like the pictured one) with our Isabella and it was awesome. I think that those used to be car seat boosters too. Ours had a 2 position adjustability. They look great with eames side chairs.

    Creede,

Joel is correct. Cosco originally designed these as car seats. The openings on the sides were for the seat belt. Needless to say I or they wouldn’t recommend it for that use today but it is a great looking piece and could be functional at the dinner table.

All this of course comes from someone without kids so I most likely have no idea what I’m talking about.

    Cheers,

    -Baz

I always wanted one of these, but the nice ones on ebay always seem to go for upwards of $50, then they have high shipping. I’m always hoping I’ll spot one at a flea market or junk store someday!

there is a geat pic of them in the swiss miss house tour on design sponge:

When I was a kid (early and mid eighties) I remember sitting in one of these over at a family friend’s house. I loved that little chair! I would take it out whenever I went over there and sit on it while watching TV. Brings back so many good memories…

We have this exact chair for our daughter. She has used it since she was about 18 months old. She rarely uses it as a booster chair at the table, but uses it in the living room to sit on. It is adjustable and popular with all the other kids who come to visit. She carries it around and uses it as a stool or a chair to watch TV on. I was lucky and found the chair at my local thrift store for $3.00. I have watched many on eBay hoping to get a matching set, but they sell for a lot more then I want to pay. 50-70. I noticed the prices spiked up after they were featured on the swiss miss house tour.
I love, love, love it. It looks great in our home but cannot vouch for it as a chair for eating on. I would worry a little about it tumbling off.
